Efficient but has problems

This hood is efficient, but it is difficult to reach the filter to clean it. It is not easily accessible. It is also very loud.

The original plan was just to replace the existing microwave-exhaust combo with an actual exhaust fan,.. but the we ended up with actually renovating the entire kitchen and updating all the appliances to KitchenAid. Turned out really great. The hood is so quiet I always forget I had it turned on.

I bought this as part of a bundle. I like the look of the fume hood. It does what I need it to do. But installation was a challenge. First, I told the salesperson I needed a recirculating fan. She said, "no problem." The only problem was that she neglected to tell me that I'd have to order a separate kit since parts were only provided for venting out. Add to this that the template holes were not appropriately placed making the installation more challenging than necessary.

We purchased the Kitchenaid Hood to go along with our new Kitchenaid stove and it worked out fine. The hood is easy to use and I especially like how easy it is to clean! Our only problem is it's slightly shorter than our previous hood so we're looking at optons of how to fix the gap.

I never have used the product due to the motherboard being replaced and I'm awaiting a part. It was defective right out of the box! Not the Kitchen Aid quality I'm used to seeing in the past. Looking at the CFM rating, I imagined that the system would suffice for the cooking. However oil vapors are still seen above the hood. Installation was a pain. This doesn't come with a power cord. That has to be purchased separately. Also loud.

I do wish that this hood was a little quieter. Efficient, and clean design. The hood has poorly-engineered mounting screws in awkward locations making it difficult to hang and level. After several weeks, the 'clean grease filter' alert came on. I cleaned the filters, but the fault indicator remained on. No solution in the manual or online anywhere. I eventually reset the alert by holding the '+' button down for > 5 seconds. Absolutely nothing in the manual about this!

These things are a real bear to install. The metal edges are like razor blades (wear gloves and long sleeves), I had six cuts that needed bandaids and many other smaller cuts. The instructions are also very poor. After install, the fan will not turn off. I called their customer service (which is probably the worst experience I have ever had) and got nowhere fast. For the money these things cost.... I recommend you look for a different product, or for $900 bucks, you can have a piece of junk like me.

Hood MUST vent somewhere - VERY difficult to recir

This hood seems to work well once it has been installed. I am a professional in the renovation industry and have found this hood to be one of the most poorly designed systems from an installation aspect that I have ever dealt with. Thankfully, I was able to install this unit with the benefit of no lower cabinets in the way. If the bottom cabinets had had already been installed, I would have had to have been a contortionist. Most egregious, is the fact that this hood will not directly recirculate air through a filter and then back into your kitchen unless you vent it to a cabinet, wall or ceiling vent. It CAN NOT directly recirculate air out of the front of the unit and back into the kitchen. Very poor design. In addition, there is not even an option for attaching the hood unit to a spacer of some sort that could then redirect the air back into your kitchen. Do not purchase this unit unless you specifically intend to vent it to the outside!!!

Bought this to replace an OTR microwave. Really looks good in my kitchen. It's pretty quiet for a hood and has a lot of draw. LED lights give it some extra class. Little bit of a challenge to install if you're a DIY'er like me. Doesn't bolt in like a microwave. You have to measure and put the screws in first, then slide the hood onto the screws. Not much room to tighten them after. I had the additional challenge of going into a 7" duct that was already in place. This hood comes with a 6" adapter. Also comes with all the adapters to go through the wall or recirculate if needed. Because it's stainless, the whole thing is covered with that sticky tape to protect it. Most of it came off easily except for whats in the crack in-between the front panel and the slanted part. The logo was a little off center too so I messaged support and they sent a technician out. He heated it up and straightened it out for me, no problem. Still have tape left in the crease. I'm working on that. Support recommended a razor blade but I don't want to scratch it up. Will try ammonia. I read that works. So be careful when pulling that tape off. Go slow. Hood also comes with a countdown timer. Alarm is not very loud and only beeps once.

When we buying a KitchenAid appliance package, our dealer recommended this hood because of it quiet low speed setting, LED lights and industrial design. Good recommendation - way better than the alternatives we looked at. Sure, it gets noisy on the highest settings, but we rarely need to use them. Excellent heat and odor venting on the lowest setting.

Bought this to conform with our Kitchen remodel. We have an older home with eight foot ceilings and changed to a gas cooktop which needs more airflow than convential stove tops. This 30 inch model easily installed in our new cabinet design and looks great with the new backsplash and cooktop. The fan is very quiet compare to other models we tested and still provides great airflow. Installation was easy after making a template. Love the LED lighting too.

Difficult to install

Bought this fan thinking it could be vented inside or out. Found out when I received it that the inside vent would have to be installed through a soffit. I had just purchased new cabinets that went to the ceiling, so the soffit installation wasn't and option. The other option was to vent outside. I had to bring in an installer who could run duct work through the roof. When he arrived, we couldn't find the right part to attach to the range hood. After several calls to the Kitchenaid support (who where very nice but not very helpful) we still could not figure it out. The service man left. The part was finally located inside the unit. It took three people to install. Installation aside, it is a beautiful appliance. It has a very powerful fan that can be adjusted to a variety of speeds. I love it.

I'm rating this hood fan a 5 because it was just the look that I wanted.... however, it was a real pain to install! My husband has built homes and is very handy around the house and this install took us all day. I live in a condo and am unable to vent an over the stove hood vent to the outside. I purchased the recirculation kit and had it installed with the unit. WOW! The 600 CFM is awesome. I do a lot of cooking, baking, and stove top frying - and this unit can keep up with everything :-)

Bought this a month ago and it is the best hood I could have asked for. Our smoke alarms are really sensitive and with the high power exhaust, we haven't had any issues with the alarms going off. Looks great and the lighting on it is so crisp.
