Unit will take a week to start making ice then start working for 2 weeks then stop working for a week then kinda start working again. Its all over the place very unreliable especially for the cost!!!

After about 8 months the ice maker stopped working. The compressor failed along with some other major parts. While it was repaired under the warranty and now is functioning well again, it is concerning that the machine failed after such a short time. I will need to see if the repair lasts longer that the initial install. I do like the ice it makes, although it is a little bit noisy when doing its job.

Stopped making ice less than 10 months after install. As the machine was still under the original 12-month warranty, I called KitchenAid customer support, as per the warranty instructions. The support rep attempted to sell an "extended warranty". A repair was scheduled with an out-of-state repair service after I declined the offer to purchase an extended warranty. The earliest possible repair date was more three weeks later. The repair guy shows up on the scheduled date, believes it is a bad thermostat, but he is not certain and will have to order the part, which will take 7 - 10 days, plus another 4 days to schedule the repair. So, I'm without a working ice machine for more than a month, meanwhile, my warranty is expiring, and no assurance the next repair attempt will be successful. I posted review on the Home Depot site, as that's where I purchased. Kitchenaid replied with an apology and suggested I follow links to a Facebook and/or Instagram - neither link is functional. I noticed the same link in other responses from Kitchenaid.
Kitchenaid was once stood for excellent quality, reliability and great customer service. What happened?
Hopefully, someone with the authority to override Kitchenaid's bureaucracy will see my review and do the right thing. That would be send a replacement that works, or failing that, authorize the use of a competent local repair person that can get me up and running immediately.

I owned this ice maker in my previous home, and it was pretty noisy. So, when I set out to buy another for my new place, I searched long and hard, then decided on this one again. I am happy to report that it is not as noisy as the first. In fact, considerably quieter, to the point that I seldom notice it. I like the way this unit is accessed for ice, I like the cubes, I like the way it is maintained, and I like that there is a substantial company behind it if I ever need service. I would give it five stars if it had clear ice™¦but it doesn™™t. You know what™¦the ice is cold and always available!

Talked to Kitchen Aid real person after many many attempts. My Kitchen Aid ice maker has not worked since I bought it. Kitchen Aid sent repairman and he said it was a bad water pump and he would return in a few days. Anyway long story short ( you can look at all my pass massages) Kitchen Aid reschedule for the 3rd time and said I should here from the repairman by Friday. Today is Sunday and I have not heard from him and he still did not show up last Tuesday when he was scheduled. Kitchen Aid schedules appointments and we make plans to stay home and no one comes to fit it. Repairman will not answer phone or text. Kitchen Aid warranty is no good.!!! WHAT AM I TO DO . All of my appliances are Kitchen Aid and my small appliances , now I am worried.

The ice it makes is great. It broke and needed replacement parts in less than 6 months. I have heard this is very common. If you do get this product, get extended warranties!!

Drain pump was broken when I received the ice maker. Had to wait 3 weeks to get a repairman to replace it. When the drain pump was the replaced the ice maker smelled like it was burning and shut down. Still waiting on a tech to respond to the repairman on next steps. 3k ice maker and still does not work after 4 weeks.

I have been considering purchasing this ice maker for a new kitchen I™™m installing but have been struggling with so many negative reviews and only 60% of people recommending it.
Here™™s the deciding factor for me, in the end, that Kitchen Aid should know about: Every negative review has the same canned response and suggests that you can contact customer service by a message through Facebook for instagram! What?! That™™s absurd. No phone number or email address? C™™mon, Kitchen Aid, if you want to show that you care and make things right do not use a canned response and for heaven sakes don™™t send people to a chat room with an impersonal customer service rep!
I might™™ve taken my chances on purchasing this unit, but when I see what I™™ll need to do, should there be any problems, I™™m turned off completely.

In the year that we've owned the appliance, it has been broken for over 6 months. The initial breakdown took over 5 months to get resolved and then the machine operated for 6 weeks before it died again. We've been waiting 3 weeks for a technician to even call and schedule an appointment to take a look at it.
This machine needs to be replaced outright, or refunded so I can buy a competitor's model.

I have a similar experience to that of Jaybolt3558. My icemaker worked for 5 days. I initiated a warranty claim and was told I would hear something in 3 days for scheduling. 3 weeks later, nothing. I tried again and was told that an email was sent stating that there was no service provider in my area. I asked where the email was sent. They had two email addresses, one was correct and the other I had never heard of. I searched back through my email and had nothing from KitchenAid other than registration confirmations and marketing spam. Finally was given a phone number for authorized service in my area (remember from above "No service provider in my area"). I called the service provider and found out that they do service my area at least weekly, but have to be dispatched by Whirlpool/KitchenAid in order to get paid.
I reached out to KitchenAid again and relayed the above. The agent reached out to the service provider, who confirmed what I had told the KitchenAid agent. Now, I have to wait an additional 7 business days to receive an email, with some information about scheduling or whatever other runaround they feel like, if the email actually is delivered. All of this could have and should have been handled immediately.
The poor excuse for customer service is actually more frustrating than the obvious lack of quality in the product.
I am actually thinking about scheduling and paying for service myself, which is likely what KitchenAid wants anyway, otherwise it wouldn't be so difficult to get service.

2 failures in less than 3 years

Icemaker was installed in March 2022. Developed a coolant leak in July 2023 that required a complete replacement of the cooling system. It has failed again in June 2024. I had purchased the 5 yr extended warranty with the icemaker, but apparently the start date for that is a year after the expiration of the manufacturers warranty. Now have to get the extended warranty start date adjusted to make a claim. Not sure who was at fault for that, but another headache for the consumer to resolve.

The few weeks it worked it was great. It oddly didn™™t come with a filter. When we put a filter in it started making a horrible noise and stopped making ice. Took the (expensive) filter out and it still didn™™t work. We scheduled a service for this week (2nd week in June). So far we are not happy.

We had a new unit installed in mid April. It never worked with water continuously flowing over any ice that is made and constantly ice melting it. It is still not fixed 1.5 months later w/ KitchenAid refusing to replace it and it is sitting awkwardly in the middle of our kitchen
This drains more water in a day than a typical shower! (We hooked the drain to a 40 gallon bucket to see water usage and found that it drains over 21 gallons a day when running vs a shower that averages 17 gallons.)
We had their repair person out 4 times (yes, 4 times we had to take off work while he worked on it) and the problem still isn't fixed and they don't know what to do. At one point KitchenAid tech told the repair guy that draining so much water is normal but we talked to another person at KitchenAid and they said it is not and it needs to be fixed.
KitchenAid so far has refused to send a replacement and said "sorry you are not completely satisfied" with your purchase.
I can't recall having worse customer service from any company. It is one thing for a product not to work at all. That happens and a normal company fixes or replaces it. But to refuse to replace it when they can't figure out how to fix it? Utterly horrible experience. Plus this is a new kitchen where we have this piece of metal sitting in the middle of our kitchen. Why? Because the repair people won't take it out of the cabinet so we need to leave it right in the middle of the kitchen for access). 1.5 months of this and no end in sight.

first ice machine broke 5x in 2 years... paid 1100 for replacement on 3/13/2024 and new one is not working.
Bought a scotsman for outside and still working after 3 years.... I wouldn't recommend product.Problems with pump.

We brought this ice maker as part of a new house build. The ice maker was purchased in 2018. Over the past 3 months we™™ve replaced the evaporator, compressor and circulation pump. The ice maker isn™™t making ice at an acceptable level and omitting a high frequency sound. We are less than a year outside of warranty and Whirlpool isn™™t willing to stand behind this product. We are looking at a repair bill close to 1200 with no relief from Whirlpool. As you can imagine this has been very bad experience. I wouldn™™t recommend this appliance

The ice maker does a great job with the ice but is so noisy. At night, I would swear that someone is breaking into my house as some of the sounds are incredibly loud and last for several seconds. On comparing notes with other individuals, I have found that they experience the same loud noises. I wish KitchenAid would address this sound issue!

This is a replacement of the old one that lasted 10 years. Installed last week and it is quieter than the old one. Ice is clear and uniform in size. I do wish the ice making shut off sensor was about 2 inches lower. It almost overfills with ice and runs more to fill to the top.

My family loves the ice, but there was a slow leak due to a factory installed hose not being tight enough which resulted in a leak that warped my wood floors by the time i realized what was going on. Also seems to drain a fair amount, which is essentially wasted water.

We Purchased the Ice Maker about 1 year ago. So far, no issues. It makes ice pretty quickly and we like the small cubes. Like all ice maker, it makes some noise when the ice drops into the ice tray. Would recommend this ice maker.

I bought this 2 months ago and I™™m so happy that I did. It worked fabulously for about 6 weeks then the compressor went out. It™™s under warranty but there™™s no ETA for the part, just like there™™s no ETA for the dishwasher that I ordered in July 2021 (it™™s not Oct 2022). I also wouldn™™t have posted a review, but Kitchenaid sends so many emails asking for a review that I finally had to oblige.

We had the icemaker installed in a new build. We had a professional installer put it in. Some of the connections internal to the ice maker were loose and the unit leaked on our new wood floor! VERY DISAPPOINTING. Once we got the installer back out to fix it, it has been working great. Need better quality control for units BEFORE they are shipped. Would have been 5 stars if we hadn't experienced the leaks on our wood floor.

This is our first ice machine and could not be happier. It makes small ice cubes. Ice cubes never stick together in the machine Hooked up easily to my kitchen drain and refrigerator water supply. It™™s constantly refreshing the ice.

Was excited to have at our beach house, however, the pump malfunctioned and flooded our kitchen floor and underneath kitchen. Instructions and code do not inform installer to install a gravity drain as a fail-safe. Big mistake.
Given the product is within one year of purchase, have been working to use one of kitchenaids ™approved™ repair companies. It™™s been four weeks not and we still don™™t have an appt.

Our 10+ year old unit finally bit the dusk, so my wife and I decided to purchase the latest and greatest ice machine since we had great results with KitchenAid. We loved the clear ice and thought, this 2022 model should be even better because they now have built in filters.
NOT SO MUCH. The ice is absolutely terrible. We have the same house, the same water supply, the only difference is the new machine which is not producing the clear ice as advertised.
To date, we have had 4 service techs all saying something different and the latest, today, informed me that it is an issue with the water supply. What a bunch of BS. Not to mention, a few days after it was installed, major water issues, leaking all over our basement floor. They replaced the pump, which solved the water issues but it did not solve the performance issues. All I keep hearing from KitchenAid is they are sorry but there is nothing they can do.
I'm hoping KitchenAid comes to their senses and realizes that this unit is a lemon and replaces the darn thing. All we want is for the unit to perform as advertised... CLEAR ICE TECHNOLOGY!!!!
