We bought this particular model as it was the only one within our budget that could fit into the allotted space where our 32-year-old SubZero built-in had sat. Its outside dimensions are exactly the same as the SubZero. The fridge seems sturdy and well- made. However, we are very disappointed by the limited interior space. Despite the identical outside dimensions, this kitchenaid is considerably shallower front to back on the inside. Also, there is a slightly raised edge running around the shelf that sits above the two drawers ( meat or cheese drawers perhaps?) which further limits interior storage, so water jugs (Brita) or other bottles are unable to sit flat if we need every centimetre of space when the shelf is full. We also find the design of the freezer to be choppy and unnecessarily limiting as a result. Thank you K Pastor

Dead after 4 years and KitchenAid did nothing

NEVER BUY 2025 12/18/2025

Warning: stay away from buying this refrigerator. After one year the led lights went out and the seal around the fridge had to be worked on. After three years we starting having cooling issues. After many licensed technicians™€™ attempt, with hours on the phone with KitchenAid ™€œsupport™€ and over $800.00 in service calls, KitchenAid said it was irreparable. ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD! The dealer would not do an exchange, as he should have, and KitchenAid only gave the dealer a small credit to give to us. We still had to pay thousands to get a new refrigerator after four months of being without a refrigerator. Whirlpool and kitchens are the same company now but I will say this. I will NEVER buy another KitchenAid again. Terrible customer service and terrible authorized dealer! They are all crooks! My family and friends now know too and they will never buy a whirlpool or KitchenAid all because of how we were screwed over. What goes around, comes around. People are catching on and let™€™s see how well they prosper in the future.

I have had an open service call ticket on this fridge since December. The stainless doors and compressor cover were delivered with permanent spotting that can not be cleaned. There is also a drawer issue. No updates from K.A. And it™€™s almost June. I have had your products in 3 homes and I don™€™t know what™€™s happened as the quality of the product is no longer there.

Looks great, but poorly designed and no fixes ever

HabSham 3/2/2025

Bought a Coastal Living Designer Show House in SC and this fridge was already installed. It's good looking and panels fit well, that's the plus side. Downsides: 1. All of the side LED lights do not work, tech said it's a known problem but I'm not spending $500 to fix 2. No internal water dispenser. Our freestanding Kitchenaid fridge that cost 1/5 as much had one inside the door 3. Icemaker design is terrible. Constantly overflows with ice falling into the bottom of the freezer, which is very difficult to reach. Also, you need 3 hands to fill any container with ice because the drawer constantly retracts as soon as you let go of it.

Number two at best because of the size

PEEEEEEEE 2/13/2025

I bought this unit because of the same size as my previous KitchenAid, supposedly the same model. The exterior dimensions are exactly the same and fit into my built-in cabinetry fine. However the interior of this refrigerator/freezer is smaller than the previous one. The shelf design on the door is extremely poor and causes bottles and everything to rattle on the door opens or closes. Get sold as a 20.9 ft.³ unit but it is not. If I could have seen this unit on the floor of a sales location prior to purchasing it I would not have.

Multiple Failures--less than 2 years old

Jay Schill 1/1/2025

Never been more frustrated with an appliance ever! We bought all brand new appliances from KitcheAide and spent $25k and $8k for the refrigerator. We™€™ve been without use of it for months because of parts failures. We have replaced thermistors thermistors, evaporator fan, condenser fans etc and it continues to freeze over the coils and created 50+ degrees inside refrigerator compartment. We™€™ve been using our 25 year old garage refrigerator as back up that has never had an issue. Guess I™€™m the foolish one for ™€œupgrading™€. The looks of it is great but we™€™d like to actually be able to use it. The refrigerator is less than two years old. Of course it™€™s out of warranty so no one really cares from the place we bought it from or the manufacturer. Unfortunately I will never buy another appliance from KA but stuck with what I™€™ve bought for a while because we outfitted our entire home with KA. Please be aware.

DAVID REDMOND 11/25/2024

I bought this refrigerator in August/delivered August 19, 2024. Two days later, there is frost build up on the freezer door and there was frost build up around the icemaker drawer. This has continued since installation to this date 11/25/24. The frost has to be removed on two- or three-day intervals to prevent excessive built-up. The end result, the freezer drawer seems never to be properly seal. The icemaker has built-up frost to the point /have to be turned off and not able to be used. THIS SHOULD NOT BE! VERY UNHAPPY. Too much money spent for this to happen. I REALLY REGRETT BUYING THIS KITCHEN AID REFIGERATOR.

Expensive and cheaply built

Jim443 9/28/2024

Bought it to replace a similar model that was going south. I was shocked at how expensive it was, apparently just because it was a ™€œbuilt-in™€ model versus stand alone. It also appears to be built far more cheaply than the 9 year old one it replaced, which was solid and sturdy.

DON'T BUY

Eman23 8/25/2024

After our house flooded with Hurricane Harvey the one thing I was excited about ordering were new appliances. I love the styling, features, and quality of KitchenAid products and was thrilled to purchase the 25.8 Cu. Ft. French Door refrigerator (KRMF706ESS), the beautiful dishwasher with a 3rd rack (KDTE304GPS), the 30" Double Oven with convection (KODE500ESS), and an enormous Microwave with a removable shelf for lots of options (KNHP519ESS) which had a special cherry cabinet built around it. Our kitchen was finally ready, just in time for Christmas 2018. The refrigerator was the first to have issues, with the ice maker leaking, stopping, freezing the entire thing up which had to be thawed with a hair dryer. We replaced the ice container 6/20, motor, seal and shaft 8/20, I/M leaking and stopped cooling on both sides 6/22. In August 2023 the entire fridge had quit working correctly and would have cost over 1K for parts which 'might' have solved the issue. Sadly our wonderful microwave started making a loud noise and quit running October 2023 and the technician gave us the news that the Magnetron shorted, and couldn't be fixed. We have a whole house surge protector so we know it wasn't caused by electrical issues. Now in the summer of 2024 our dishwasher quit working correctly. The motor has died in the main wash assembly. It would cost more than $600 as the entire bottom of the unit must be replaced. Since 3 of our 4 expensive KitchenAid appliances have failed I asked the technician about our very pricy oven which he warned us that if the heating element on the bottom goes out, the removal and repair for it will be astronomical, because of the way it is constructed. [ ] I absolutely love these appliances, they were all top notch and had every feature I could ever want, but I can't believe that I have spent over $10,000 and am having to replace 3 of the 4 in less than 6 years! I CANNOT RECOMMEND ANY KITCHENAID PRODUCT.

Disappointed

Arnold 843 7/17/2024

I purchased my new built-in kitchenaid refrigerator and had it installed, and it did not work, lights were on but never got cold. Needless to say after spending over $8,000 I was not happy, it took 3 weeks and the appliance store replaced it, but all of my food had spoiled. I can't be for sure but I think I was given a refurbished one, I believe this because the serial number was considerably lower in number and the drawers were not properly installed. A few thing I don't like, one is that the lighting in the freezer is terrible position and you cat see anything, two the drawers in the upper part are not deep enough to put a head of lettuce in. It is hard to say if I can recommend this refrigerator.

Repair part is no longer manufactured

Robert Wh 5/12/2024

I've had my built in Kitchen Aid side by side refrigerator/freezer for 17 years. It has had a few repairs over the years which is understandable. However, over the past year I have had it worked on 4 different times. The Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid repair guy that came out 3 weeks ago said he can't fix it this time because the part we need is no longer manufactured. I am frustrated that I am going to have to pay $10,600 + tax, shipping and installation because the part is no longer made. If you make and sell an appliance that is this expensive you should make the parts to repair it for longer than 17 years. My sister's Sub Zero is 30 years old.

KitchenAid Quality Has Really Deteriorated

FNelson 11/23/2023

I have been a KitchenAid customer for years. KitchenAid used to be associated with top quality. Not so much anymore. I have a KitchenAid oven, dishwasher and cooktop which I have been happy with. Not with this refrigerator. Purchased in May and already am calling for a third service visit! The ice maker drops ice behind the freezer drawer and the most recent repair part just dropped into the ice tray. They have not been able to fix it. Ice tray is difficult to open as well. Very disappointed with a $8,000 refrigerator.

Least favorite KA

Khormuth 11/5/2023

This is the 3rd KA refrigerator I have owned and this is my least favorite model. I much prefer the french door models, especially the wood trim interior I last owned. The drawers and door on this fridge are terrible. The door swings closed forcefully that the deli drawer has to be opened to hold the main door open in order to load groceries or clean the interior. The produce drawers are not level and bump in to each other when opening and closing. I™€™ve tried to remedy these issues as well as the home builder and nothing could be found.the freezer is incredibly small and nothing is adjustable. When the fridge was installed the on/off switch was left halfway between the two positions. I found this only after messages about the temperature, assumed the freezer had been left ajar, then came home to the fridge off completely.

Good replacement for my 22-year-old KitchenAid

Rharron 10/17/2023

I bought this built in refrigerator after my 22-year-old KitchenAid refrigerator started to have issues that required a repairperson to come to the house. I was VERY satisfied with my old refrigerator both due to length of life and functionality. This new refrigerator is really the same in many respects and perfectly fit into the original cabinet space. A few differences in comparison to my old refrigerator that are disappointing are: 1. Except for the ice drawer, the freezer door and upper drawer cannot be easily removed. In the event something drops to the back of the freezer (such as ice cubes) it is not straight forward to remove the ice or whatever drops back there. I emailed KitchenAid for suggestions, and they never responded. 2. The vegetable drawers are smaller than my old refrigerator which does result in more general space above. I personally would rather have the larger vegetable bins. That all being said, the refrigerator works well, keeping to the appropriate temperature throughout the refrigerator and freezer. I like the LED lighted interior, the ability to add a filter for smell and a freshness pack in the vegetable compartments. The ice maker works well. One change that I very much appreciated is there is no longer a butter bin door that if left open results in the door not completely closing. That was a problem on my old KitchenAid. Overall it is a good refrigerator that I hope will last as long as the KitchenAid that it replaced.

Great look in our kitchen

KEBGCB 10/6/2023

We replaced our 20 year old Kitchenaid built-in with cabinet panels on the doors. We were skeptical about the new look but the stainless steel fits in well and looks great. Some minor issues: no butter compartment in the door, only bins so it's hard to get the butter dish in and out; previous model showed current temperature in refrigerator and freezer when you opened the door, this model only shows temperature SETTINGS when you press a button.

Crisper drawers DESTROY produce

Holly G 9/12/2023

I bought all Kitchen Aid products for my kitchen remodel in 2013 (double wall oven, 36" wide built-in refrigerator, induction cooktop) and have been so deeply unhappy with this refrigerator, which then cost $6K. Produce put in either of the drawers either turns limp or dries out in a couple of days unless the vegetables are COMPLETELY sealed. Want to see a limp carrot or radish? Just put it in my "crisper" drawer and wait 4 days! The cheap refrigerators my kids have in their rental apartments keep produce far better than this one. I've never been so disappointed with an appliance in my life. I was going for the look and wish I'd gone with Jenn-Air.

Mediocre Design Reduces Storage Capacity

BobG Wine Country 7/28/2023

I bought this refrigerator to replace a 24 year old SubZero refrigerator that was on its last legs. The interior layout of the KitchenAid refrigerator is quite poor compared to a comparable SubZero model. This holds true in both the refrigerator and the freezer drawers. Freezer lighting problem 7/27/2023

I bought this refrigerator May 2023 and of course never looked at the lighting in the freezer as it wasn't plugged in. It's absolutely terrible. The lights are in the back of the freezer and on top so and you can't see any of the food package names when you pull out the freezer drawer due to no light IN the drawer. It is a terrible design. I would not recommend this KitchenAid freezer on the bottom refrigerator. It's too expensive to have such a bad design.

Stop the ice 6/21/2023

I had this refrigerator for over 15 years and loved it. But it finally died and I needed a new one. I ordered the same one. This one looks a bit cheaply made. And the ice machine need a major redesign. The ice keeps coming to the point that when you open bin ice falls back to bottom of freezer. There isn™€™t an off switch that is conveniently located. I had service come out thinking something was wrong. Service guy came out and said it was a design error. I have to take bin out, reach back and flip up lever. It is located way back and your hand can™€™t reach it when bin is in freezer. Very strange. Very disappointing. I wish I could have kept the old version.

Failed 3 days after installation - no resolution

Count Rochambeau 3/6/2023

We bought the unit in December 2022. It was delivered and installed Feb 8. Three days later the unit failed. Refrigerator and freezer compartments lost their ability to cool/freeze. Factory service came out on Feb 13 and determined that there were multiple part failures the worst of which is the main control unit. We are now on day 21 and KitchenAid is unable to provide the necessary parts for repair. We have a beautiful, completely non-functioning refrigerator with no communication from KitchenAid as to when we might be able to actually use it. We have also lost three months of our warranty. We have purchased several KitchenAid products (including other built-in refrigerators) over the past 30 years. What has happened with quality and customer service?

Has some interesting features

Loretta B 2/21/2023

We are very pleased with our new KitchenAid refrigerator. The inside color and lighting are very nice. We replaced a SubZero refrigerator that lasted 30 years. I prefer the SubZero but we chose the KitchenAid because it was less expensive and also because we liked it. The brushed stainless steel finish is very nice and compliments other appliances in the kitchen. I was nervous about that because our other refrigerator had a wood front to match our cabinets. My husband thinks the door closure is too strong...but maybe it's a safety feature. We're just getting used to it. I find it does not hold as much as the SubZero and I was very surprised about that since it is the same size. The shelves are adjustable as were the shelves in the SubZero and we find that very helpful for sometimes having to store some things of unusual size. The drawers are not as deep and do not hold nearly as much. We miss the egg storage feature in the SubZero and found it much better than the egg storage feature we have now. Overall, we are pleased.

Poor Quality - second one!

joanne m 1/14/2023

So we are on our replacement and now have the same issues as before...lights are failing and the icemaker arm has broken several times. Cannot believe this...after spending 9000 on a refrigerator that has issues like this is just not acceptable...looking forward to speaking directly with customer service.

Lights out. Service says they can't fix it.

fedup in Ames 12/28/2022

I bought the left hand version and we love the look. But, but the LED lights have failed. The local service agent has tried multiple times to replace the LEDs but can't figure out why replacing them doesn't work. They told me they wouldn't be back and I should just submit it to insurance - a $9Kfridge ! We love it but its a terrible product. And now its about to be trash. You'd think in this day and age they'd figure out how to wire lights that can be replaced and have them work. But nope.

Spacious refrigerator

Canino23 12/27/2022

After several months of wait, we finally got the refrigerator. Initially, the ice maker didn™€™t work. Technician had to come few days later in order to check. They were in plans to replace ice maker, but, somehow, it started making ice. Works well. Overall, it was worth the wait. Easy to clean.

Broken on day 1 and still waiting for replacement

Unhappy Customer NYC 12/13/2022

I got this fridge delivered in late September (after months of wait) and it broke on day 1. Fridge is at 50 degrees and freezer doesn™€™t work at all. Kitchen Aid has agreed to replace and only in early December I was allowed to schedule delivery but delivery company has been horrible and Kitchen Aid basically tells you it™€™s not their problem and I need to work with delivery company myself. So there™€™s my view on quality of the product and quality of customer service.

Great design

Ray69 7/5/2022

The door has so much storage for condiments. Ice maker is quick and the hopper is a nice size. Compressor on top is the best for efficiency. Only complaint is that the appliance needs to be secured to the wall, it's liable to tip over when opening the door, especially with the vacuum seal on the door.
